Remember that, across the same resistance, power goes up with the square of voltage; 120v RMS can deliver 100x the wattage of a 12v supply, and 240v delivers 400x.
Oh well… That industrial relay has ‘almost’ the same contact ratings of a simple songle srd-05v sl-c relay (specifically the C form/single phase). But I’m sure it won’t last as long as 20y+ in such harsh environment.
Simple, do you know how expensive it would be to change from 120v to 240v? It would be an insane amount and there would be virtually no benefit.
I couldn’t agree more. I was hesitant to document it at all, but my thinking was that if someone was going to try it, better they have an outline of the traps they face.

Regular gasoline costs about $3 per gallon where I live, so it’ll cost (26 / 46 * 3) = $1.70 to propel the Niro the next 26 miles after the battery is depleted.
Wikipedia states most of mainland europe is on TN−S. “This arrangement is a current standard for most residential and industrial electric systems particularly in Europe”, if thats wrong, someone should fix it, preferably someone who has a authoritive position and can quote standards

So it’s the usual forgettable Toyota – but still hugely preferable to the godawful Prius which is a truly horrendous looking vehicle
24v 12a is not that much more at 288watts. I’m sure I’m missing something to do with electromagnetism which makes the secondary unnatractive?

Reading at least the related article and a datasheet before making comments about something is quite a heavy task to ask this days…
I don’t know where do you see low voltage traces close to mains voltage. Trace from R8 to the opto is 2.64. How far do you think it should be to meet your standards? Conformal coating is telling you anything?
It calls out a MOC3041M on the silkscreening. One can use a MOC3041 of course as they are the same form factor.
I would like to add that it’s not just electricity you need to worry about. There could be other energy sources present from things like air, springs, hydraulic, etc that could pose a safety risk when you remove the electricity.
