The outlet on your wall is likely on a 15 amp circuit, so in many cases, the Smart Plug can handle as much power as the breaker or fuse can. Are you just opening it for curiosity’s sake, are you going to work on the high voltage circuit to fix it, or is it surplus that you’re scavenging for parts? If you honestly don’t know what you are doing, then shut the fuck up and stay the hell back. A dead “know it all” knows nothing. Turn off your fucking ego because it’s going to get you killed. Period. Use common sense to keep yourself alive, if you have none, stay the fuck away from electricity.

What we can say for now is that the new Corolla has taken a giant step forward, and that in terms of cabin quality and refinement, comfort and dynamic capability it is up there fighting among the very best. Likewise, you would hope, Toyota’s famed reputations for both reliability and customer service should continue to add credence for buying one.

I also seen a technique where a relay is placed in parallel with the zero crossing triac so the triac is only passing the load for 200ms or so while the relay switches. Since the triac is on longer than the relay, the contacts don’t arc over when switching, and the traic doesn’t pass the current all the time.

The triac can handle 8 amp continuously and upwards to 60 amps in surges. But the 8 amp is if heatsinked enough. If you insist on a 15 amp capability replace the triac with a 25-30 amp model instead. But will *still* need heatsinking. I triac usually drops upwards to 1 volt, so pushing 15 amps in a triac regardless of size will generate up to 15 watts, and that will generate a *lot* of head in a hurry.

L2 is absolutely useful in cold climate, specially when you don’t have a heated garage. Because a very minimalistic L1 level won’t be able to charge much while also having to keep the battery at a functional temperature, more less to preheat the car or the battery at optimal temperature.

• Find some space: Although you can store a portable generator in a garage or shed, it must be at least 20 feet away from your home when running because it produces carbon monoxide. You may be glad it’s 20 feet away, because portable generators can be obnoxiously noisy. (This may not please your neighbors, however.)
