I’ve been complaining for years about similar inabilities to do math with respect to diesel fuel. “Oh, but look at the high number I can calculate!” they all cry–as they pump their tanks with a fuel that’s 33% more expensive than gasoline.

This doesn’t make any sense, why not use an extension cord with the 220 already in the house? A 6 or 8 gauge cord for 75 feet should be perfectly fine.

I agree. Plus, from my experience using remote controlled outlets, when the 4A inbuilt fuse dies because of reasons, the relay stays intact. O the other hand, I have never seen a light dimmer with blown fuse, just blown triacs.

There’s a lot of FUD in the comments here about extension cords (which if you know what you’re doing, you have some 12AWG SO and call it a day, 10 if it’s really dang long) and in terms of current, if you screw up and overload a plug you have a handy-dandy circuit breaker there for you. If you want to say I can’t trust that, you have other issues. I wouldn’t want to try this in a house with K&T, which I didn’t know was still so prolifically installed until I moved to the Midwest.

However, experience tells me that this very minimal standard is not good practice. Modelling for 240V will only cause problems with the first over voltage transient or spike.

The back-EMF voltage generated across the start winding causes a small current to flow in the start winding and potential relay coil, because they are in the same circuit.
