I think Brian’s point was that if the bond between the earth ground and the neutral return of the incoming premises power isn’t good enough, then the short to earth might *not* trip the breaker. Of course, it would likely start a fire instead (the resistance may not be zero, but it will be low enough to sink a great deal of power in most cases and a 15A breaker will tolerate a couple THOUSAND watts), but I think that if you can’t trust that the building is to code, then all bets are off.
The microwave I recently tore apart had a hefty resistor connecting the capacitor to ground, to quickly drain it of power when the magnetron itself wasn’t energized. (The capacitor itself had a label saying there should be a resistor bridging the cap’s contacts for the same purpose.)
Step 3: Use the pulse-rating curves (Fig. 2) in the same datasheet to determine pulse capabilities relative to the 40 pulses at the 1000-A requirement.
You’ll notice that there’s a single general lighting circuit that’s warmer than the other breakers in this panel; again, it’s only a small increase in temperature, so I’m not concerned. If it were much warmer, I might question why.
Second was with an old (illegal) CB amp that I was converting to HF, and I touched an unshielded feed inductor of some sort, the aftermath from the RF burn was worse than that time I grabbed the wrong end of an iron with my fingers.
Did you keep records so that you actually know you repaired 15,000 TVs? I don’t believe it, and if it is not true then I doubt your other statements on this evidence alone. People should classify their statements as to fact, fiction, or opinion, not just leave them in an ambiguous interpretive limbo.
Actually most power panels I have worked on alternate phases as you go down the opposite rows, not one phase on each side, 240 breakers take up 2 breaker spaces on one side of the panel using alternate legs.
There is a huge difference between heater and electric motor when it comes to inrush current. But anyway haven’t seen 600A contactor for switching on 60A motor.
It’s the same with larger, more power hungry projects as well. [Nerd Ralph] has been running a mining rig for a few years now, and has learned just how important proper power supply management can be. His strategy involves using interlocks to ensure everything powers up at the same time to avoid feedback problems, running a separate ground wire between all GPU cards and the PSU and running the supplies at 220 for the NA folks.
I like the idea, but you don’t need a 3D printer for this. Just use conductive strips or good ol’ fashioned wire.
An assessment of a circuit boards durability and or safety should be based on circumstances and consequences and not false assumptions like “this board will only ever have 240Volts supplied to it”.
The most useful thing I found in this article is that you can rotate those screw connectors at a 45 and they drop in 0.1 inch breadboard holes.
