SELECTING A MOTOR STARTER

Follow this step-by-step guide to select your custom motor starter:

(1) Non-reversing or Reversing

Non-reversing motor starters have a single contactor and are designed to run the motor in one direction only. Reversing motor starters use two mechanically interlocked contactors. The use of two contactors makes it possible to run the motor in two directions ,forward or reverse, and the interlock prevents energizing both contactors at the same time.

(2) Kilowatts, Horsepower nd FLA Ratings

Check your motor nameplate to identify your motor’s Kilowatts ,horsepower and full-load amp (FLA)

ratings. Be sure the FLA rating of the motor does not exceed the FLA rating of the motor starter. The thermal overload device should be set to match the motor nameplate amps, not to exceed the FLA rating of the motor starter. If you have questions regarding selection of the motor starter that best fits your application, contact our Technical Support .

(3) Circuit Protection

All of our combination motor starters have a through-the-door disconnect handle with safety lock-out provisions.

(4) Input Voltage

Select the input voltage of the motor starter.

The input voltage should match the voltage used to power the motor.

(5) Enclosure Rating

Several enclosure options are available to closely match the requirements of your application. You must choose NEMA Enclosure Type Number and IEC Enclosure Designation , the table please reference the table:

(6) Motor Starter Options

Control Transformer

Select a control transformer when it is desirable to reduce your control voltage for operator devices, pilot lights, and remote control components. Transformer primaries are wired for the same voltage as the motor starter input power. Transformers are available with a 240VAC/120VAC/24VAC/ secondary.

Operators

Optional operator devices can be selected to offer control from the front panel of the motor starter. Operator device control voltage will be equivalent to the input voltage of the starter or the secondary

voltage of the optional control transformer. If operators are excluded, the contactor coil can be specified to allow for remote operation of the motor starter .

options include:

Non-Reversing

- Start/Stop Pushbuttons

- Hand-Off-Auto Selector Switch

Reversing

- Forward-Stop-Reverse Pushbuttons

- Forward-Off-Reverse Selector Switch

No Operators, remote control desired

- No operators, 24VAC/60Hz contactor coil

- No operators, 120VAC/60Hz contactor coil

- No operators, 208VAC/60Hz contactor coil

- No operators, 230VAC/60Hz contactor coil

- No operators, 480VAC/60Hz contactor coil

Pilot Lights

Non-Reversing

- Pilot Light, ON indication, RED color

Reversing

- Pilot Lights, 1-FWD and 1-REV indicator,

RED color
